Ancillary Text 2 - Magazine
As a result of audience feedback I decided to make some of the text on my magazine red so it stands out whilst still sticking to the genre.

3) lWhat have you learnt from your audience feedback?
I have made many changes throughout the process, my initial draft is completely different to my final one, this is due to feedback from a variety of people who both study media and who do not.
2) How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
I believe that I have continuity throughout my products, this is by doing basic things such as having the same actors, I decided I would conduct a survey for audience feedback on draft 4 of my film trailer, one of the questions I included was "Would you say there is continuity throughout the trailer, magazine and poster? (Do they go well together, can you tell they are from the same film?)" This is so I could get other peoples views on my product, I made sure to word it in a simpler way so everybody could understand the question, these are the responses I got from a range of different age groups.
I made sure to use the colour of red throughout my texts to stick to conventions and I thought it worked well for my title, I chose the font to be the same throughout my poster and magaizne and after somebody mentioned the title in the trailer threw them off I decided that I would change that part in my final trailer to ensure continuity and it would make my texts effective together.
A media student which I asked for feedback over social media also stated that he did not see the link between my magazine and my other texts on my first draft of my ancillary texts, therefore I am going to make some of my magazine text red to keep the same colour scheme throughout.
It is important that I make sure my products have a theme of continuity within them which is why I have kept my main colours throughout black and red which also conform to the murder mystery genre.
I have also done the basic idea of using the same actors throughout as if I used somebody else, that would make each product look like three separate texts which would be a bad advertising movement for the film, unless it was a well known movie franchise then they could afford to use less continuity within their advertisement of the film.
1) In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
I have figured out what my magazine has in common with the texts I analysed, I have found that it has some conventions of a magazine as my text is different colours so parts stand out more, I have included a feature article as well as other articles which is also conventional, similarly to the Total Film magazine I have articles on both sides of the magazine, I have also made the font of my main article relate to the film like the Total Film magazine does for their main article so I have made mine red to represent blood which references the murder within my film. I have also kept a colour scheme within my magazine but I have done this by challenging the conventions of a typical magazine by making it a predominantly black and white magazine as a reference to the film noir genre which is a very popular type of murder mystery, I however twisted this slightly by adding red on some of the articles to make it stand out more as your eyes are instantly drawn to the title of each article. I have gone against the convention of different font sizes on my magazine cover despite advice to change this from my teacher, this is because when I tested it with different font sizes I didn't like the look of the magazine, however since the titles of each article are red, I feel this makes them stand out more. From analysis of my magazines I've realised plugs aren't used that often, however my magazine does have a gift which links with one of the articles, similar to the Total Film magazine I analysed.
I found what was common between my poster and the one I analysed, for the most part I believe I have stuck to conventions by including red text which is conventional of murder mysteries because it represents danger and blood, I have also used the dark background which allows my actor to stand out, however I do not believe my photo is conventional, I initially wanted two of my actors to be glancing at each other suspiciously but could not arrange a time for them to both be there as my initial backdrop was going to be the trees in which much of my film trailer has taken place. I have included a star rating on my poster which is unconventional of a poster however I believe that it would attract an audience to the movie more as it shows how good a movie it is according to movie critics. One thing I have not included on my poster is a release date, this is due to a poster generally being one of the first things released so there is not always a set release date for the film yet, this is generally first shown on the main trailer for the film.
